Cemetery: Descry the honour
The artwork contemplates death as a transition, a seed moving through connections from the past to the future, pausing in the present. Even in death, individuals receive social affirmation from their community, though they ultimately share the fate of non-existence. We give them the honour!
The piece is a mechanical sculpture activated by a side button, emitting light and sound for a set duration. Two levers on top enable interaction: one changes the light colour in certain cells symbolising affirmation, while the other subtly moves seed pods within the cells.

Murmuration: A Social Mechanism
The connection between the process of creating and the idea behind it allows us to ask diverse questions, finding answers that link various subjects.
My series, “Death, Seed, and Flight,” exemplifies this approach, exploring social mechanisms through art. In my context of murmuration—a social mechanism reminiscent of rituals—there’s a profound connection between death, seed, and flight.
Each piece in the series is a mechanical kinetic sculpture, inviting observers to engage interactively. They can contemplate the relationship between the sculpture’s name, its form, and its movement, uncovering deeper meanings through this artistic exploration.

Tower of Transience
“Tower of Transience” is a representation of our society, formed of a collective of individuals with shared values forming a strong unity.
The Tower is a kinetic sculpture, made up of seven stacked blocks, “the individuals”, standing on wheels, indicating a root-less, moving mechanism; each “portal” in the centre of the block has its own unique movement, pulse, and light.
The observer is invited to engage with the tower by pressing a detached foot-pedal, briefly bringing the tower to life, with its lights and a flurry of activity.

The Gate of The Void
Individuals define themselves using many attributes – one of these is a search to understand their roots and set their identity from this understanding. What is not always understood in this search is that our roots, rather than a fixed point tying us to a place, a thing, a people, or a culture – are a web of connections between things. This network is a motion in entanglement.
A section in the web timeline forms a frame of the event.
The ‘Portal’ artwork series is an expression of this concept.
Portals are both forms and voids. The voids contain movement, and the pulse of the individual and vibration of the things. This movement is an expression of depth through time. A collection of portals forms a gate, The Gate of the Void.
The gates take different forms – they might be powerful, ruthless monolithic forms or an exploded version of the same form with a totally different composition, with a contrasting emotion and togetherness.

Inside I & II
Often, we tend to focus on the external appearance of things and ignore what’s inside. This applies to sculptures, objects, and even people. We typically only see their appearance. Here are two, two artworks that challenge this notion.
These artworks invite people to interact by touching a specific part, which brings the sculpture to life. As they move, a unique mechanical sound is produced, and the internal scene slowly changes and shadows are created by the light inside. They contain hidden parts that illuminate both the viewer and the surroundings.
One of these artworks, Inside II, consists of two shapes spinning inside each other. The intentional unpredictable movement prompts observers to be patient and pay more attention, challenging our common impatient behaviour. In a world where we often overlook things quickly, these artworks remind us that there’s more to discover if we take our time.

Portal: “Tension”
An individual defines themselves within the various tensions of their peers. These tensions both allow and obstruct the individual’s identity formation, creating a constant battle.
This piece invites the viewer to interact by pressing a button on its plinth, initiating a moment of vitality. The widening form serves as a gate (portal) into a network, with its screen obscuring the visibility of the ‘thing’ within.
The movement, characterised by unpredictable rotation, leaves a distinctive imprint shaped by the elasticity of the materials. This interplay between interaction, ambiguity, and movement invites viewers to engage with the artwork, encouraging introspection and exploration of personal meaning.

Portal: “Collision”
The kinetic sculpture prompts viewers to animate it, eliciting exaggerated mechanical sounds and movements. Within it, multiple voids symbolise individual records of memories, akin to the rings of a tree. Here, unlike the static rings of the tree, the ever-changing records of three individuals coincide. These records take on a life of their own, in constant motion, unpredictably rotating and colliding with one another. Each collision generates unique impressions, contributing to the collective narrative contained within the sculpture.

Binary scream
In the realm of digital, the experience of a scream is silent—an absence of sound. However, this portal translates digital silence into an analogue expression, making visible what is otherwise unheard. Silence takes on a new form, becoming perceptible.
Inspired by the abstract notion of a screaming form, this mechanical sculpture embodies the essence of a scream in a unique interpretation. Eight mechanical knobs, each representing binary code, allow the observer to activate the light behind them by turning them individually. Through this interactive process, viewers engage with the artwork, transforming digital silence into tangible expression.

Murmuration: Synchronised Migration
Drawing inspiration from the V formation of bird migration, this piece bridges the gap between the movements of humans and birds. While humans can migrate individually, their collective movements contribute to a larger whole, akin to the synchronised flight of birds. Human migration, depicted here as a constant “V” formation, embodies the unity of humanity in motion.
The artwork, a mechanical sculpture, embodies the sensation of flight in its form. By turning the central wheel, viewers can manipulate the movement of the wings within the voids of the sculpture. One direction of rotation flaps the wings in unison, while the other alters their synchronisation. Observers are encouraged to engage with the wheel, experiencing the dynamic movement within the sculpture.

Pulse, Skin, Existence
Pulse:
Individual experiences converge to create a pulsating fabric of interconnection. Inner worlds pulse onto the surface, breathing life into the collective whole.
Skin:
This panel portrays the concept of skin as a metaphor for existence. Diverse existences converge, forming a fabric where ‘rings of events’ continually revolve, recording experiences and shaping collective history.
Existence:
Here, a cluster of diverse existences intertwine, their ‘rings of events’ in constant motion, recording history. The panel reflects on the evolving nature of existence and the interconnectedness of shared experiences.

The Fall
This mechanical kinetic sculpture symbolises life’s journey. With each turn of the knob, you progress to the next level, culminating in a fall. Reflecting on my past reveals the effort, perseverance, and occasional setbacks I’ve faced.
The cyclical motion mirrors our existence—ascending only to descend again, subject to personal and external interpretations. Every lift ends with a fall, a reminder of the inherent balance in our experiences.

Three Modules: Self-Retrospective
“Self-Retrospective,” is a kinetic sculpture inviting participation to observe my journey to the past. Let the complexity of identity be embraced together, transcending surface perceptions to uncover the essence of being.
In the first section “I Was Born,” identity norms are questioned, hinting at societal constraints.
“I Was There” is in the middle and celebrates shared human experiences, promoting harmony.
The final piece “Here I am!” delves into introspection, exploring past-present tension, emphasising interconnectedness.
